Basilica Palladiana

Unesco heritage site designed by Andrea Palladio, hosts temporary exhibitions.

The Basilica Palladiana, located in the heart of Vicenza, is the architectural work that made Andrea Palladio famous. Following the collapse of the south-west wing of the then Palazzo della Ragione (the first nucleus of the Basilica), in 1549 the city council approved the project by the young architect who gave the city one of its symbolic places, characterized by the now famous Serliane loggia. The characteristic green roof, however, is the result of a restoration in 1827: to lighten the load on the walls, the lead roofing was replaced with a copper one. Today the exhibition spaces of the Basilica Palladiana are the setting for exhibitions and events sponsored by the city of Vicenza.

Address: Piazza dei Signori, Vicenza
